...across the room to pray.....

As a funeral director I may have heard 'The Lord's Prayer' "recited" more times than most of my readers and I often wondered whether people were really thinking about what they were "praying".  I used the word 'recite' because most times it was done so fast that nobody had time to think about the words they were praying.  If we really believe that we are talking to God, Jesus, Creator of the universe,  The Lord (Ps. 23) I have no doubt our prayer would not sound like a recitation.  On that note, I thought I would share this today....

"When you pray that the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven, envision conflict being resolved, marriages and families healed, truth told and people faithful to one another, initiatives that break through the vicious cycles of retaliation, and love that creates new community through forgiveness, reconciliation and  peacemaking."

I love that! It's true, I rarely think about the words I'm saying when I recite the Lord's prayer. It was really helpful to read that quote to give me some things to envision while praying. I will never say the Lord's Prayer without those images in my mind again!

I like his take on it, I also think about not having my own ideas for how things should work out but following God's leading. Let His will be done, not mine.

Glad to hear you appreciate his view. I do too.
It is so true that when we pray God's Will be done, we are acknowledging that He is sovereign and knows best in every circumstance.
I often ask Him to help me to be OK with however He answers my prayers.
